WordPress 2.0

Filed under: General — Andy @ 8:04 pm

Yay for early adoption!

I’ve got WordPress 2.0 installed before any of you even knew it was out!

Anywho, this is looking to be my last post before the new year. So, Happy New Year!

Changing Goals of Terrorists?

Filed under: General — Andy @ 10:16 pm

So, according to a White House spokesperson, the democratic elections in Iraq today are supposed to be a “devastating blow” to terrorists’ “goal of a free and democratic Iraq.” Huh?

Wasn’t the goal of, oh, say Osama Bin Laden to attack the United States? To get us out of the Middle East, and to punish us for being there? That’s what he said in oh so many tapes. I’m inclined to believe him professing his beliefs over some White House official.

So what exactly would a democratic Iraq do to the terrorists? Nothing.

Their goal is to attack us, not their own nation. Shouldn’t we be concentrating on their threats, not what we’d like their threats to be?

Police Whack Giant (Snow) Penis

Filed under: General — Andy @ 5:01 pm

How’s that for a headline?

Turns out that somebody built a snow sculpture on their friend’s lawn, and the police beat it up with shovels because they thought it was a prank. They plan on putting the sculpture back up again as soon as the snow is sculptable.

The article makes for an amusing read.

Nightly Gaim 2.0.0 CVS Builds!

Filed under: Hacks — Andy @ 12:58 pm

<geek>

Presumably you know about Gaim, the awesome open-source, multi-protocol instant-messenging program. Maybe not. Anyway, check it out. I use it for Yahoo, AIM, and, of course, GTalk.

So, I saw that version 2.0 is supposed to have a bunch of new features. And it’s open source, so I can get CVS builds. And nobody knows how to build it. So, after a few days of frustration with Windows and Cygwin and GNU Make and others, I got Gaim to build on Windows. With a script. Nightly.

So now, anyone who wants bleeding-edge Gaim (though it’s usually fairly stable) can get it from my website at http://gaim.lardbucket.org/builds. If the download goes slowly, that’s because it’s going through Coral Cache to insulate me from any linking that others might do.

Also, the builds have been spotty the last few days and I’m not sure why. I’m looking into it, but if the builds aren’t there for certain days, that’s probably why.

I only keep builds for a week, then they get deleted. You can always get the newest one by going to cvs-latest.exe if the last day’s build succeeded.

Alrighty

Filed under: General — Andy @ 7:14 pm

Well, y’all seem to want an update to the blog. Sure, why not. But it’ll be short, because I don’t have much to say. School’s fine and all, but it keeps me busy most of the time. So, I now direct you to Jonathan Coulton’s Mandelbrot Set (mp3 link). If you don’t understand it, you’re not geeky enough yet.
