It’s Not Just the Air Vibrating

So, after listening to The Final Countdown (it’s a good song, but overplayed) for what has to be the 30th+ time in gym today (30+ times total, not today) , followed by the Mortal Kombat theme (why?) and then some mildly annoying rap songs, I wondered what other people listen to. Most of the people I talked to (captive audience during a run if you keep up with them) didn’t seem to like the music. Then again, I talked to what one might call the “less athletic” group of people. Some of the “more athletic” people seemed to like the rap.

Clearly, different people like different types of music. I’ll pretty much take anything that doesn’t have lyrics I’m immediately suspicious of (or can’t understand). Some people absolutely hate classical music, others hate country, and still others dislike “pop” music. Then again, others really like each of those types of music. But various types of music seem to be more popular among different people at different times. For a while, it seemed that Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys had popular music. Now, few people seem to listen.

I guess the question is, what are you listening to? What (else) would you say is “popular”? I listened to two Talking Heads albums, some Styx, and then a mix of faster-paced music (that for some reason fades into the background easier when I’m trying to memorize things for tomorrow’s Physics test) today.

  1. Hahaha, I’m commenting. I will also be [pleasantly] surprised if Tommy reads this… so then he’ll finally stop thinking that the only thing I listen to is Enya (of which he found a few songs on my iPod over a year ago). My favorite stuff is by ATB, Paul van Dyk (the album “In Between), and especially Tiesto (I like the In Search of Sunrise 5 and 6 compilations the best, probably more than his original works)— vocal trance is my favorite genre. So yeah, I do listen to music. And it’s not Enya. Although Tiesto did do a sail away remix, hehehe.
