Wisdom Teeth

Filed under: General — Andy @ 7:17 pm

Well, it’s not exactly fun. I had my wisdom teeth removed at like 9:30 on Friday. Apparently, most of them came out cleanly, and only my lower-left tooth had to be drilled out. So far, it’s gone like so:

Friday

  • 11:30 AM - Ride home. Teeth hurt a bit, but I’m still kinda numb. I think I got local anesthesia + general anesthesia, but I’m not sure about the first part. That would explain why my jaw was numb though.
  • 12:30 PM - Ow. Now things start hurting. I lie down with some ice and drift in and out of sleep. No new painkillers yet.
  • 1:30 PM - Mom gets back with my prescription. Take 2 Vicodin equivalents (5mg hydrocodone, 500mg acetaminophen), 1 penicillin, part of a chocolate pudding cup, and a bit of water. Stop eating the pudding when my teeth hurt too much. Lie back down without ice.
  • 5:00 PM - Wake back up. Take 2 painkillers (and 1 penicillin?), eat 1.5 cups of chocolate pudding. My teeth don’t hurt much at all any more. Stay awake, read email, sit around dazed. Alternate half-hours with and without ice.
  • 10:00 PM - Take 2 more painkillers and another penicillin, have some pudding, solve USAMTS 5/1/19, go to sleep.

Saturday

  • 6:30 AM - Wake up, teeth don’t hurt too much if I don’t move around. Don’t hurt too much anyway.
  • 7:45 AM - Eat some vanilla yogurt, take 1 Tylenol equivalent (500mg acetaminophen).
  • 1:30 PM - Not sure on the timing of this, but: Eat some banana yogurt, two cups of chocolate pudding. Consider and take another Tylenol, consider ice.
  • 2:30 PM - Decide left cheek is swollen enough to warrant ice. Put some on for an hour or so, alternating every half-hour.
  • 6:00 PM - Get hungry, have a half-bowl of applesauce, dice and then microwave a slice of pizza, eating it slowly. Almost want another Tylenol, decide against it.
  • 7:15 PM - Decide to take another Tylenol

If I feel like it, I’ll update later. Not sure there’ll be much more noteworthy though.
